Reid
Rested, injured or on his bike?

Where was he tonight?

Re: Reid
I'd certainly take a straight swap (if 8 mil is too steep for them) for Jenkinson on a permanent deal for Reid now. Collins and Tomkins maybe aren't quite as strong, but they're not far off either.

Good price to start negotiations
Arsenal flush with cash...ground paid for...
Tight Arsed Wenger & Board...
Sullivan has their number...Pay up...or wait ...
Arsenal weak at CB...so need him or comparable for the run in if they want to compete for Top 4...

Re: Reid
Last season our best centre back pairing was Reid and one other. I'm sure I'm not the only poster who thinks that Reid is not significantly better than Collins/Tomkins this season.

Re: Reid
If that happens we're gonna need 40-50 mill to just tread water.

I can see Allardyce walking away if that were to happen.

"if we end up losing Reid, Song and Jenkinson for one reason or another then that's three key positions needing to be filled"

Now that would be frustrating!!

Re: Reid
Reid's a good player, but we brought in two good defenders this season - Jenkinson and Cresswell. So I'm optimistic that Reid's replacement will be ok.

Maybe he won't be as good as Reid, but I suspect he'll be good enough.

We can't throw silly money at Reid. We've go to fit everyone under the wage cap and the more we spend on Reid the less we have to spend elsewhere.

Re: Reid
Russ, that's a fair comment.

I just think that we've come a long way this season and if we end up losing Reid, Song and Jenkinson for one reason or another then that's three key positions needing to be filled.

In an ideal world we'd retain these three and buy another solid player to fit in alongside. We've lost decent players before, it's just frustrating more than anything.

Re: Reid
I don't think he's been our best defender this season. I think Tomkins and Collins have been just as good as him.

I'm not saying he's been playing badly. It's a combination of both Tomkins and Collins playing better, and Reid not hitting the heights he was last season.

There's no doubt he is our best defender. Absolutely no doubt.

But many people are now looking at this with the claret and blue spec's well and truly off. The bloke is leaving. So we have to look at the future without him. And many, like me, do not see the future being to bleak without him.

Don't think anyone has said he is 'not all that' just that, as a player, as good as he is, he does have his limitations and in the grand scheme of things isn't irreplaceable.

Re: Reid
Nobody has said he's the new Bobby Moore at all.

One minute Reid is our best defender by far but then, when it appears he's leaving, he's not all that according to some on here.

I'm not really sure how that's being precious? The word precious seems to be a bit trendy on here at the moment.

I love that Sakho is banging them in and hope it lasts, I do think he is a one season wonder though

Re: Reid
There is no need to get precious about things, it people don't think Reid is the next Bobby Moore they are entitled to say so.

Re: Reid
If we're looking to sign a proven centre half who is young and has his best years ahead of him then one of the best options out there is Winston Reid of West Ham who is available on a free transfer this summer.

That's why all this talk dismissing him of 'not being all that' and 'easily replaceable' is complete bullshit. He is class.

Re: Reid
Wenger will be cumming in his knickers at the prospect of getting Reid. But it will be more to do with the fact he's on a free rather than anything else.

The tight shifty cunt.

Not sure if this has been posted but look at these stats. Reid literally fucks all over Per and Koscielny.

OM

Just goes to show, you never can tell. Shit french 2nd div, and he tears up the premier league on arrival. On the other hand, millions upon millions have been spent in our league on players with top stats and reputations, who turn to shit once moved from their normal environment.

It's a casino out there.

"I get much more satisfaction when finding undiscovered gems, like the Sakhovennies of the football world"

I was thinking about this. I would have been very intrigued to see what the reaction would have been last season when we were proper struggling, had someone suggested we buy a fella from the shit 2nd division in France.

I get much more satisfaction when finding undiscovered gems, like the Sakhovennies of the football world, rather than spending top dollar on established names.

If our scouts can do a similar job to last summer, then I'll be delighted.

Monk~koknee 9:32 Fri Jan 16

I may suggest that not every single team in the world has the same priorities. And not every single team in the world can have every single good young player.

I suppose actually I may have been a little disingenuous. To replace Reid directly won't be that easy. But more from the position of a settled person, up to speed on what the PL is all about with good experience.

I was really looking at it from ability and technical side. Reid is avery good defender, no doubt. But I honestly believe there are players in and around Europe who are just as good. And should not really be beyond us.
